Obituary for Beverly "Bev" Jane Swalley
Beverly “Bev” Jane (Moran, Tucker) Swalley, 88, of Marion, formerly of Springville, passed away after an extended illness on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Family will greet friends from 9 – 10 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Bev was born May 1, 1932, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Cornelius and Helen (Cook) Moran. At age 16, and as a senior in high school, she started her 32 year career at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Cedar Rapids where she worked as a supervisor. Bev married Lee Tucker Jr. in July of 1950. They had one son, Philip and later divorced. She married Henry “Hank” Swalley on September 13, 1980, in Springville, Iowa. He passed away January 26, 2011. After her retirement, Bev took care of her three grandchildren until they went to school. She later became a caregiver for many years – caring for her parents, brothers and husband. She was a former member of Hillside Wesleyan Church of Cedar Rapids where she was involved in many church activities, mainly children’s Christian education. In recent years Bev regularly attended Squaw Creek Baptist Church in Marion.

Bev is survived by her son, Phil (Mary) Tucker of Marion, Iowa; step-children, James (Maria) Swalley of Henderson, Nevada, Christina Swalley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Dean Swalley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Susan (Kay) Tucker of St. Louis, Missouri, Melissa Wroblewski of Pella, Iowa, Matt (Kimberly Merta) Tucker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Teagan, Anthony and Liam Wroblewski of Oskaloosa and Pella, Iowa and Aria Tucker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; step-grandchildren, Jacob Swalley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jaime Swalley and her children, Lea (Joel) Lin and their children, all of Henderson, Nevada; a step-great-great-grandchild, Eevee Kottemann; a sister-in-law, Mary Swalley; and her faithful cat, Puff.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hank; and brothers, Murland and Richard Moran.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Grand Living at Indian Creek, words cannot describe how much your loving care of our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma meant. Bev loved it there. You made her “locked in” 88th birthday so special. Her Mariachi Band Party meant the world to her. The family would also like to thank the staff at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. You made Bev’s final journey one of dignity and peace. Your loving care was beyond wonderful. Thanks to everyone that touched Bev’s life. You will be loved and remembered always.
