A Bright Light Gone Out.
Prof. Alonzo Abernethy, of Cedar Valley Seminary, Osage, pays a glowing tribute in the New Hampton papers to the memory of Prof. John E. Whirry, an assistant of his who died March 8th, aged 36 years. Deceased was a Chickasaw county boy whose parents lived for a time in this county. He went from the public school into Decorah Institute, from which he graduated, and became a public school teacher for two years. Returning to Decorah he took a penmanship course in Valder Business College, and then went to Cedar Valley Seminary where he taught and studied until he became proficient in his chosen department (business) of education. Death resulted from pneumonia. The testimony of President Abernethy is that his life was filled with good deeds.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Osage Cemetery in Osage and was born Oct. 30, 1863.
