Sandra J. Heckstein, age 81, of Osage, Iowa, died Sunday, August 4, 2019, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2019, at the United Church of Christ in Osage with Pastor Charles Owens officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Sandra was born May 8, 1938, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Katherine (Rodemaker) Krones. She attended school in Osage and graduated from Osage High School in 1956.

Sandra was united in marriage to Vernon Heckstein on February 8, 1958, at the First Baptist Church in Osage. She worked as a bookkeeper at the ASCS Office, Pfaltzgraff Plumbing and Heating, and Foth Plumbing and Heating, all in Osage. Sandra was the Mitchell County Auditor from 1988 until she retired in 2000.

She and Vernon enjoyed wintering in Harlingen, Texas for 10 years. After Vernon’s death, in 2006, Sandra continued to winter there until her health wouldn’t allow it anymore. Sandra was a lifetime member of the Osage American Legion Auxiliary, where she held various offices and Osage V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was the Department of Iowa American Legion Auxiliary President from 2001 to 2002. She enjoyed golfing, following her grandchildren in their school activities and camping at the “Ponderosa”.

Sandra is survived by her son, Keith (Karen) Heckstein of Osage, and their children, Kaleb (Sara) Heckstein, Kelly (fiancé, Clayton) Heckstein, Kimberly (fiancé, Tony) Heckstein and Kraig Heckstein; daughter, Kris (Rob) Williamson of Osage, and her sons, Josh Huebsch, Nick Huebsch and Billy Huebsch; daughter-in-law, Sherri (Gary) Hovey of Decorah, and her children, Kory (fiancée, Rocky) Heckstein, Jenny (Brian) Hermanson; seven great-grandchildren; brother, David (Ginnie) Krones of Hanover, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Phyllis Krones of Osage.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; two sons, Kevin and Kenneth; and a brother, Stanley Krones.
