Obituary.
Alice P. Mead was born in Erie county, New York, July 7, 1845 and died at Riceville, Iowa, January 16, 1908, aged 62 years, 6 months and 9 days.
When a small girl, she with her parents moved to Beloit, Wis., and later at the age of 18 came to Mitchell county, Iowa. She was married to James Kearns at Brownville, Iowa, Aug. 1869. Six children were born to them, the eldest dying in infancy. Those who remain are Mrs. Rose Robison of Milwaukee, James Kearns, Jr., Mrs. Effie Fellows, and the Misses Alice and Winnie Kearns, all of whom were with their mother during her last illness, and most tenderly administered to her every want.
Mrs. Kearns’ failing health extends back one year at least, but she bore her ills so uncomplainingly little cause was felt for alarm by her friends until about four weeks ago. Since then they have been hoping against hope. But death conquered, and Thursday morning, just as the bright and beautiful day began to dawn, she passed peacefully away.
In her life she was quiet and unassuming, home was her resting place, her husband and children her companions, and little grandson, Ralph, was also very dear to her. She was truly a loving wife, fond mother, and the concourse of neighbors and friends who daily visited her gave evidence of the esteem in which she was held by the community in which she lived.
She leaves to mourn her death besides her husband and five children, one brother, Charles B. Mead of Geneva, Ills.
The funeral was held at the home Saturday forenoon, Rev. Kirwin of the M. E. church, in charge of the services, and the remains were laid to rest in Riverside cemetery.-Riceville Recorder
