June 27, 1931 - January 12, 2019

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Joy June Bulow, 87, died on January 12, 2019 at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, Iowa, with Rev. Christopher Staley officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton, Iowa. Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to the service at the church. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Joy June Bulow was born on June 27, 1931, in rural Thornton, to Chris A. and Pearl (Buck) Nielsen. She attended Thornton Schools. Joy married John Anderson in 1948 and to this union five daughters were born. After John's death, Joy completed LaJames Cosmetology School and opened her own Beauty Salon in St. Ansgar, which she operated up until she was eighty years old. In 1966 she married Helge Bulow and to this union one son was born.

Joy loved nature and the outdoors, gardening and animals. She was a Iowa Hawkeye fan and an avid garage sale shopper. She always had a positive outlook on life and a smile to share with everyone. Joy was a very caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor. She gave from her heart.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, John and Helge; six brothers, Dale, Ivan, Gene, Donnie, Franklin and Leo; three sisters, Opal, Ruby and Marlene; one granddaughter; one great granddaughter.

She is survived by her children; Vickie (Don) Voorhees of Hudson, WI, Penny (Don) Pederson of Garner, IA, Jill (Marvin) Pederson of Jeffers, MN, Renee (Larry) Hansen of Hampton, IA, Jonnie Carpenter of Newton, IA, and Daren (Christine) Bulow of Casper, WY; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mavis Jensen of Cedar Falls, IA ; many nieces and nephews.
