Dr. Herbert J. Hannam II, 91, of West Bend Cedar Community passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018.
He was the loving husband of Trudy Hannam for 69 years; devoted father of Judy (Robert) Kloehn, Sharon (Thomas) Kraft, Herbert (Melanie) Hannam, Stuart (Dyan) Hannam, Douglas (Susan) Hannam and Mark (Karolyn) Hannam; proud grandfather of Scott, Ryan, Jeremy, Jason, Rachel, Katie, Jamie, Abbie, Jon, Michelle, Danny and Jordan; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Herbert was preceded in death by parents, Herbert and Lavina Hannam; brothers, Duane Hannam and Eugene Hannam; and sister, Darlene Anderson. He is survived by his brother, Harlan Hannam of Iowa City, Iowa.
Herb was born in St. Ansgar, Iowa. He graduated from Lyle, Minnesota, High School in 1944. After high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and was a World War II veteran who enjoyed being on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2014.
In 1949, he married Gertrude (Trudy) Schlichter, who graduated from St. Augustine (Pacelli) High School, in Austin.
He attended the University of Iowa before transferring to the University of Minnesota, where he received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering. He became head of the X-ray Engineering Dept. at General Electric and then became vice-president of Geo. J. Meyer Manufacturing Company.
He resided in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, for 43 years before moving to the West Bend Cedar Community eight years ago.
Herb was an avid motorcyclist, enjoyed playing bridge, and enjoyed supporting his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting activities.
Herbert will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Cedar Ridge Campus, 113 Cedar Ridge, West Bend, WI 53095.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the West Bend Cedar Community.
Herbert’s family would like to extend thanks to all the staff at the Cottages, and the Cedarburg Community Hospice Program for the loving care he received.
