November 29, 1933 - October 20, 2018

St. Ansgar, Iowa - Gladys Mae Groth, 84, of St. Ansgar, died on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. Funeral service will be on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Mark Squier officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Gladys was born on November 29, 1933 to Carl and Nettie (Halvorson) Stromley in Mitchell County, Iowa. She married Arnold Groth on February 10, 1952, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Her hobbies included anything outdoors, such as yard work and gardening; also baking, cooking, sewing and drinking coffee with her sisters. Gladys was a two time cancer survivor. She loved her Lord, her husband of 66 years, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Nettie Stromley; parents-in-law, Henry and Ida Groth; three brothers: Orville, Carl Jr. and Kenny; and by two sisters, Rose and Ruth.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold of St. Ansgar; daughter, Linda and Rick Poole of Oklahoma City, grandson Jeremy and Chelsea McConnell, and great-grandson, Oaks; step granddaughter, Amanda (Poole) and Andy Wilson, and by a great-grandson, Miles; daughter, Kay Groth of St. Ansgar; Son, Alan and Lisa Groth of St. Ansgar; granddaughter, Ashley and Adam Mitchell and great-grandsons, Leo and Abe; granddaughter, Chelsea Groth. Son, John and Lu Groth of St. Ansgar; grandson, Jacob and friend Ashley Pearce; granddaughter, Augusta (Gusty) and Keith Adams; granddaughter Sadie Groth. Daughter, Sharon Groth of Austin, MN. Seven sisters; Loretta, Louise, Jane, Inez, Lillian, Betty and Diane.

Family requests memorials go to Stacyville Community Nursing Home, Hospice of North Iowa and the St. Ansgar Rescue.
