ST. ANSGAR, IOWA – JoAnn Schmidt, 71, of St. Ansgar died Friday, September 14, 2018.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Toeterville with Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4-7:00 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Obituary--

JoAnn “Joni” Schmidt was called to her heavenly home on September 14, 2018. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, IA.

JoAnn Maples was born January 2, 1947 in Los Angeles, California, to Florence Ann Scott. She graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in 1967. On June 20, 1970 she married David C. Schmidt in Elkhorn, Nebraska. The family moved to St. Ansgar in 1981, where she resided until her passing.

Throughout her life, Joni’s compassion and faith were expressed through the love of her husband, children, and grandchildren, the care she gave to those throughout her life of service as a healthcare professional, and the countless friends with whom she shared cups of coffee.

Joni always cheered for the Green Bay Packers and the New York Yankees, win or lose. She was active in many community activities in St. Ansgar throughout the years. Her church family at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville could always count on her to volunteer and support her fellow parishioners.

She is survived by her four children, Emily (Alex) Edwards of Elkhorn, NE; Julie (Mike) Morische of Nora Springs; Amanda (Mike Graff) Schmidt of Austin, MN; and Jonathan (Abby) Schmidt of Cedar Rapids; her eight grandchildren Anna and Owen Edwards, Alexander Schmidt, Ellen Heiny and Ezra Graff, Connor Keenan, Lucy and Hazel Schmidt; mother-in-law Ruth Schmidt of Omaha, NE, sisters-in-law Linda (Walt) Duda; Diane (Rodney) Christenson; and Sue Hoaglund and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband David; her mother Florence Farrell and stepfather Jerry Farrell; her father in-law Walter Schmidt, and brother-in-law Dennis Schmidt.

Visitation will be held at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar on Tuesday, September 18 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church on Wednesday, September 19 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials my be sent to St. Peter Lutheran Church for the Feed My Starving Children fund, a charitable organization that Joni supported and loved
