It is with the greatest sorrow that your correspondent writes you of the death of one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Riceville.

Mrs. Katherine Erwin died at the home of Mike Sulivan, in Riceville, March 16, 1903. Mrs. Erwin was born in Ireland, in 1817, consequently was in her 86th year of age. She was the mother of five children, four of whom are now alive. Mrs. Rose Sulivan and Miss Lizzie Erwin, of Riceville; Mrs. John Creamer of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. Katie Mahoney, of Winona, Minn.

The funeral services were held in the Catholic church, March 18th, and her remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery south of town.
