Gerald (Jerry) Meitner

April 25, 1934 - June 27, 2018

Jerry Meitner, 84, passed away June 27, 2018, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 301 3rd Street, Lyle, MN. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Schroeder and Site's Funeral Home, 207 South School Street, St. Ansgar. Inurnment will be held at the St. Ansgar City Cemetery.

Jerry was born west of Osage on April 25, 1934, the son of Oscar and Anna (Popp) Meitner. He graduated from Osage High School in 1953. Jerry enjoyed farming, born and raised on a farm and living on a farm north of Mitchell until moving into St. Ansgar three years ago.

Early in his farming career, he also worked for Bud Rachut, helping with the vegetable farming in Fertile and delivering produce throughout the Midwest. Jerry especially loved raising and working with horses, from his Belgians in his youth and middle life and graduating to ponies in his later years. Jerry also liked welding, working at Staff's Garage in his younger years and then using those skills to repair his machinery as he farmed.

Jerry also loved music, playing accordion and drums for 68 years, making many acquaintances through the years.

Jerry was a 4-H leader, served on the Mitchell County extension, was a Mitchell County Trustee, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlotte (Jones); two sons, Leland (Barb) of St. Ansgar, Kenneth (Julie) of St. Ansgar; daughter Diann (Darwin) Tabbert of St. Ansgar; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Marcella Voight; brother, Leo (Lorraine) Meitner; sister-in-law, Carol Jones; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Anna Meitner, sister, Darlene Elliott and her husband, Mel; brothers-in-law, Jim Voight, Wayne Jones, Bill Moss; sister-in-law, Beverly Moss, nephews Kevin Jones, Leroy Jones and Russell Voight, niece Deb Voight.
