David J. Bush M.D.

David J. Bush, M.D., 74, of Beverly Farms, Massachusetts and formerly of Stacyville, Iowa, died peacefully at home, Saturday, May 5, 2018.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday June 12, 2018 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Inurnment in Visitation Cemetery. Following services there will be a time to greet the family in the church hall.

He grew up in Stacyville, Iowa, the son of Burtis Monlux Bush and Irma (Kinney) Bush. David settled in Cape Ann where he began his private practice as a Family Practitioner Specialist in Manchester-by-the-Sea, where he practiced for over 50 years as an affiliate of Beverly Hospital. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1965 and was an active alumnus through the Edward Frederick Sorin Society. David completed his medical training at the University of Iowa College of Medicine where he graduated with honors in 1969.

In addition to being a Doctor, Bush owned and operated The Old Corner Inn in Manchester-by-the-Sea where he forged many close friendships over the years. The Inn recently celebrated a renovation in the spring of 2017; completed under the direction of his long-term Manager, Michael Stankus, a close friend for the past 20 years.

David often returned to Stacyville to attend high school reunions with classmates from the Class of 1961 where he enjoyed sharing the fun of lobster bakes and participating in the annual Brat Day Celebration. He recently attended his 55th reunion with 12 of his Visitation High School classmates during the summer of 2016.

David enjoyed nothing better than watching “The Fighting Irish” Notre Dame Football; and collected many fond memories on trips with friends and family to watch the Golden Domers march down the gridiron.

His favorite past times were brunching, reading, antiquing, and working crossword puzzles poolside. He was a well-known enthusiast of the 4th of July; often entering an Old Corner Inn parade float in area town celebrations. He traveled throughout the United States and abroad including memorable trips to Egypt, Israel with his son Marc and the Galápagos Islands with Marc and grandson Vinny who he deemed a “really great kid”. He was proud of his granddaughter Molly as she works toward her own MD/PhD education; often quizzing her on medical facts.

David shall be remembered for his entertaining conversation full of quips and antidotes, which he often coined himself; especially how he answered the phone and greeted visitors with “hello, hello”! He will be greatly missed by friends and family “don’t you know”!

David is survived by his son, Marc A. Kwiatkowski and his wife Beth of Camden, Maine, and Grandchildren Molly Kwiatkowski of San Diego CA and Vincent Kwiatkowski of Camden, ME.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 313 Washington St Suite 310, Newton, MA
