Cynthia Lee Spears was born on December 31, 1955, to Ronald and Mary (Beener) Spears in Waterloo, Iowa. Cyndi attended schools in Dubuque, Iowa, Appleton, Wisconsin, Glidden, Iowa, Grinnell, Iowa, Des Plaines, Illinois, and West Union, Iowa. She graduated from North Fayette High School in West Union in 1974, and then went on to graduate from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, in 1978. During her college years, Cyndi spent her summer breaks working at EWALU Bible Camp in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Her first year out of college she lived in Milwaukee and worked at the Coffee Trader, before coffee shops were the rage. While working there, she got a job in Fayette, Iowa, teaching K-12 art, coaching junior high track and basketball, plus supervising prom.
When Fayette consolidated, Cyndi took the K-5 elementary art job in Osage, Iowa. This job morphed into a K-6 elementary job with two high school art classes. During this time, she was privileged to work with incredible art teachers and staff. Cyndi wanted everyone to appreciate and enjoy creating art so she set up afterschool art classes for kids in grades 3-6 and taught these classes for 35 years. Cyndi loved to instill in the kids her love for travel and other cultures. Being with family was how she loved to spend her time.
Cyndi is survived by her beloved friend and confidant, Sharel Jorgensen of Osage; her father, Ronald (Pat) Spears of Waterloo; her mother, Mary Spears of West Union; her sister, Kim (Brian) Harper of West Union and their daughters, Lakisha (Harry) Aller and children, Nadera and Jodi, and Jesse (Jon) Hapke and children, Grey and Sloan Jolee; her brother, Rodney (Norine) Spears of Lawrence, Kansas and their children, Zach, Kieran and Adi; her sister, Sarah (Matthias) Moeschlin of Rummingen, Germany and their son, Kaden; and step-siblings, Alan and Colleen Moritz family, Val Moritz family, and Scot and Mendy Moritz family.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and step-sister, Kimberly Moritz.
