Martha Mary Beland

May 2, 1917 - April 18, 2018

STACYVILLE, IOWA - Martha Mary Meyerhofer Beland, 100.95 years of age, passed to eternal life on April 18th, 2018 at her dwelling in Stacyville, Iowa.

Martha Beland was born on May 2, 1917 to John Andrew Meyerhofer and Ida Frances Kramer Meyerhofer. She married William J. Beland on August 28, 1940; nine children were born to this union.

Martha Beland died peacefully under the excellent care of Stacyville Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice. She lived at home with with her daughter, Carol, until 99 years of age.

Martha Beland was the oldest of 13 children, 11 of whom lived to adulthood. Stacyville Iowa was her home throughout her life. Her various professions included Nanny (prior to marriage), farm wife, bookkeeper, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, excellent gardner, prize baker and cook, quilter, food preservation specialist, decorator, caregiver, and Christian mother. Her life was marked by incredible strength and generosity.

She is survived by her nine children: John, wife Marcia, of Arizona; Carol Pollock, Stacyville; Susan Tan, Florida; Douglas, wife Ellyn, Colorado; David, wife Deborah, Seattle; Steven, wife Lorraine, St Ansgar; Michael, Stacyville; Ann, Chicago; and Denis, wife Melody, Owatonna; 23 grandchildren and 29 grandchildren also share her legacy. Two sisters, Sister Nila OSF, Chicago and Sister Nona OSF, Dubuque, the youngest of her siblings, and Jean Beland, sister-in-law, are also surviving relatives.

Services will be held at Visitation Church, Stacyville Iowa on May 21, 10:30 a.m.; Monsignor John and Rev. Ray A. Burkle, officiating.
