FUNERAL NOTICE--

James Ralph Roethler, age 81, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center in Riceville, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 9 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville with Rev. Chris Gorshe officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Riceville.

Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Sunday, April 8th during the hours of 4-7 PM and one hour before services at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, all memorials will be given in memory of Jim to fund the activity & transportation bus for the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center.

Obituary for James R Roethler

June 29, 1936 - April 5, 2018

James Ralph Roethler, age 81, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center in Riceville, Iowa.

James was born on the family farm in rural Elma, Iowa, on June 29, 1936 to Leo and Mae (Moosman) Roethler. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Elma.

Jim was united in marriage to Anna Mae Kruger on May 24, 1958 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville. They began married life in Kenosha, WI, where Jim worked at Snap-on Tools. In 1964 he and Anna Mae moved back to Iowa to farm for his father-in-law who was disabled after an auto accident.

In 1972 they purchased a farm near Lime Springs, IA. Jim coached little league fast pitch ball for fifteen years. He retired from coaching to devote more time to farming and selling Pioneer seed corn for 23 years. Jim retired from farming in 2003 and they moved to Riceville. His hobby was collecting and restoring John Deere tractors. His favorite pastime was spent fishing or hunting. Jim had great joy in mentoring young men during his pastime activities. He loved children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae of Riceville, a sister LaVonne Armstrong of Gilbertville, IA, brothers; LeRoy (Marge) of Elma, IA, and Robert (Darlys) of Waverly, IA. Also surviving is a foster son, Robert (Janice) Smith of Wabasha, MN, grandchildren; Ashley Castillo, Samantha Smith, Teresa Daniels, Carmon Smith, Scott Pauley, Courtney Wagens, and eight great-grandchildren, two sister-in-laws: June Roethler of Riceville, LaVonne Klein of Riceville and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers; Jack, Donald, Kenneth, Milo and Wallace, a sister Lucille Roney and a foster son Wayne Wagens.
