Item #1:

Again has the pale specter visited our community and summoned to the realms of bliss beyond this vale of tears an estimable young lady just budding into womanhood. Miss Margaret F. Hume, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hume, age 20 years, 3 months and 2 days, died at the residence of her parents in this place Monday last at 1:30 P.M. after an illness of but a few days. It is one of the saddest deaths we have ever been called to chronicle.

Mrs. Hume has been confined to her bed with sickness for several weeks and her condition has at times been regarded as critical. On Thursday of last week her daughter was taken violently ill and during her brief but fatal sickness was deprived of a mother's tender care. At about 1 o'clock Monday the attending physician announced to the family that their daughter was dying. The mother being unable to even sit up requested that the bed in which her daughter was lying be removed from an adjoining room and be placed beside hers. The request was complied with and the sorrow stricken family gathered around the bedside.

Margaret, or Maggie as she was familiarly called, was a young lady highly respected by all who knew her. Her life was in accordance with the precepts of the law of human kindness. By her quiet and loving disposition she endeared herself to all with whom she was acquainted, and her friendships were of the truest and lasting kind. It is hard to think that one so young and capable of future usefulness should be taken away by the rude hand of death. But He who is the Maker of all things and the Preserver of them know what is best for his children, and while her loving relations and friends may weep above the newly made grave they should find consolation in the promises of Him who is perfect in goodness, mercy and truth.

The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon, Rev. Bretall delivering the discourse.
