Kenneth Peter Michels, age 94, of New Haven, Iowa, died Monday, March 5, 2018, at the Faith Home in Osage, Iowa.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven, Iowa, with Father Mark Murphy officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in New Haven with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 5:15 p.m.

Kenneth was born December 9, 1923, in rural Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Verona (Fox) Michels. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in New Haven. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On August 25, 1949, he married Irene Pattyn at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They farmed and raised their family in the New Haven area. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Osage American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus. Kenneth enjoyed bus trips and trips to casinos with Irene, family gatherings, attending ball games and having morning coffee with friends, and making people laugh.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Irene Michels of New Haven; his children, Ron (Dorothy) Michels of Whitehall, Montana, Tom Michels of Bloomington, Minnesota, Connie (Alan) Henninger of Payson, Arizona, Dave (Marie) Michels of Clive, Mary (Mark) Low of Osage, John (Ann) Michels of Osage, Joe (Gale) Michels, of Cedar Falls, and Mark Michels of Rochester, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Russ Michels and Dean Michels.
