OSAGE, IOWA - Donald Benttine, 79, of Osage, died Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Good Shepherd Assisted Living in Mesa, Arizona.

Memorial services will take place in Mesa, Arizona, and local services will be held in the summer of 2018.

Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage is assisting the family.

Donald Lee Benttine, 79, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on January 14, 2018.

He was born in Osage, Iowa, on September 23, 1938. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, January 17th at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 1844 E. Dana Ave in Mesa.

Donald “Donnie” Lee Benttine, age 79, of Osage, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Good Shepherd Assisted Living in Mesa, Arizona.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Avenue, Osage, with Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Inurnment will be in the Osage Cemetery. Gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. In Lieu of flowers please show an act of kindness toward anyone with Alzheimer’s.

Donald was born September 23, 1938, in Osage, the son of Carl and Alice (Thompson) Benttine. He graduated from Little Cedar High school in 1957. On November 10, 1973, he was united in marriage to Marianne Wrage Valler at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage. He was self-employed most of his adult life.

At age 19 he purchased a milk route for the Little Cedar Coop Creamery. Later he owned and operated the East End Sinclair Gas Station, D & M Lounge, Montgomery Ward Catalogue Store, Benttine’s Repair and Osage Star Route. Donald was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for over 50 years serving many years as an usher and also a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona. He enjoyed his Clear Lake home in Tanglefoot, winters at the Village at Apache Wells in Mesa, Arizona, traveling, gardening, socializing and spending time with friends and family. He was happiest fixing something, especially cars and trucks.

Donald is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marianne of Mesa, Arizona; children, Dan (Sugam) Valler, Julie (Steve) Dietz, Jeff Benttine and Staci (Ray) Yob; grandchildren, Benjamin (Nicole), Bambi, Jesse, Elena, Aubrey and Ashton; great grandchildren, Devin, Ella, Quinn and Quoya; brother, Leroy (Joanne) Benttine; sister-in-law, Janice Benttine; many nieces and nephews; and his special family in Norway, Knut, Gunvor, Anna, Sivert and Johan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clayton and Lester; sister-in-law Wilma; and great-grandson Quaid.
