Louis “Tip” Taylor, 97, of Lyle, Minnesota, died peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2017, at The Cedars of Austin, Minnesota.
He was born March 23, 1920, in St. Ansgar, Iowa, to Alfred and Fannie (Nelson) Taylor. Tip attended country schools in the Elkton, Dexter, and Adams areas and enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1942. Tip served his country as an Army staff sergeant and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He was honorably discharged Sept. 23, 1945. He began his career with Hormel Foods on Oct. 1, 1945, retiring in 1983 after 37 years and three months.
On January 12, 1946, Louis married Marian Barr in Wykoff, Minnesota. Marian died in 1974. Later Tip married Elizabeth “Bea” Anderson, who passed away April 3, 2013.
He spent his entire adult life in Lyle, and was involved in many community organizations and activities including the Lyle Cancer Telethon for over 30 years, the Lyle American Legion Post 105, and the Lyle Lions. Tip served on the Woodbury Cemetery Board, and was a member of the Lyle City Council for 38 years. He was also a “car jockey,” working as a “professional” driver for dealerships. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
Survivors include his sons, David (Carmel) Taylor of Austin, Minnesota, and Michael (Kim) Taylor of Lyle; his daughter-in-law, Jane Taylor, also of Austin; his stepdaughters, Sharon (Herb) Doll of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Dana Perkins of Buffalo, Minnesota, and Nola Stahl of Lyle; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Marian; his second wife, Elizabeth; his son Rodney; three sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle.
The family is requesting that donations be directed to the Lyle Cancer Telethon or Woodbury Cemetery Association in Lyle. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
