Michael Carmody, age 81, of Osage, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Cremation has taken place.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2017, at the Columbus Club of Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

Michael was born on May 1, 1936 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of David and Helen (Keenan) Carmody. He attended Dowling Catholic High School in Des Moines and acquired his Electrical Engineering Degree from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. Michael served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1959.

Michael was united in marriage to Mary Anne Schmitz on August 5, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Urbana and to this union, five children were born. He worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and then moved to New Jersey, where he worked for the Department of the Army as an Electrical Engineer at the Picatinny Arsenal in Dover. After retirement, he moved to Osage in 1993. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, where he was the treasurer since 1993.

Michael is survived by his children, Kathy (Jack) Slinker of Indianola, David (Jacqueline) Carmody of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Deb) Carmody of Center Point, John (Debra) Carmody of King George, Virginia, and Trish (Jeremy) Owen of Grimes; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jo (Robert) Monfore of Wagner, South Dakota, and Rosalie Boozel of Mason City; two brothers, Patrick (Jane) Carmody of Brooklyn, New York and James (Debbie) Carmody of Ankeny.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Anne in 2015; one sister, Margaret Carmody; two brothers, David Carmody and Steve Carmody; brother-in-law, Vince Boozel.
