St. Ansgar, Iowa - Doris M. Wells, 94, of St. Ansgar, died on Friday, September 1, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar. Memorial service will be Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the St. Ansgar Baptist Church, with Rev. Gary Gonnerman and Rev. Aaron Moore officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Doris was born on June 11, 1923 in Riceville, Iowa, the daughter of Ivel and Merle (Brown) Harding. Doris attended school in Riceville and was married to Creston Wells on August 7, 1939 at the Methodist Church parsonage. They were living in Cedar Falls when Creston entered the U.S. Air Force. They moved to Riceville in 1943 and in 1951 to St. Ansgar.

Doris was a homemaker and also sold Avon products for several years during the 1960s, after which she became the custodian at the Methodist Church for several years. She enjoyed craft work, crocheting and quilting, as well as camping and traveling most every weekend with Creston as he played in his well-known band (The Four Guys) throughout many counties.

Doris is survived by a son, Philip Wells and his special friend, Nancy Chitwood, of St. Ansgar; two granddaughters, Melinda McCoy of Des Moines, IA, and Michelle Short of Canon City, CO. Also surviving are a niece, Pamela Lundt of Beresford, SD; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Tamm of Fonda, IA, and Suzanna Wells of Holland, OH; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by Creston on August 5, 1989; a daughter, Sandra of Lake Mills on December 25, 1964; a granddaughter, Jodi Kay on December 25, 1964; sister, Maxine Newhouse of Riceville on August 11, 1977; a brother, Kenneth Harding of Mason City on November 10, 2000.
