Neva M. (Patterson) Nelson

Neva M. Nelson, 100, formerly of Lyle, Minnesota, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Neva was born April 24, 1917, in Mitchell County, Iowa to John and Velma (Rutt) Patterson. She graduated from Lyle High School. Neva married Otto Nelson on Dec. 4, 1938, at the Lutheran parsonage in Lyle. They made their home in the Lyle area where Neva was a homemaker. She lived in Lyle until 2010 at which time she moved to St. Ansgar.

Neva was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle where she was active in circle. She enjoyed crafts and crochet work; one of her accomplishments was she creating a 3-foot by 6-foot wall hanging of the Lord’s Prayer which hangs in the church. She was a Welcome member and she liked to play in the card club group.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Velma Patterson; her husband, Otto; sons, Richard and John; daughter, Maridee in infancy; sister and brother-in-law, Helen (Clarence) Debner; brothers and sisters-in-law, Max, Darrell (Ruth), Donald (Enid) and John (Fran) Patterson.

Neva is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Joe Lane, Marion, Iowa;
daughter-in-law, Sandy Nelson, Austin, Minnesota; grandchildren, Leslie (Mark) Seehusen, Randy (Jeanine) Holm, Amy (Sal) Vacirca, Kim Condit, Shay Spear, and Eric Condit; several great-grandchildren; sister, Lois (Walter) Benesh, Austin; sister-in-law, Mildred Patterson, Osage, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, with the Rev. Steven Woyen officiating. Private interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church on Saturday one hour before the service.
