FUNERAL NOTICE--

MONA, IOWA - Mavis Gloria Hanson, 78, died Monday, April 10, 2017, in Austin, Minn.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2017, at the Mona Lutheran Church, Mona, with the Rev. Scott Meyer officiating.

Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Mavis was born on February 7, 1939 in Austin, Minnesota, to Gilbert and Millie (Johnson) Carlson. She attended school at Mona and Lyle, graduating from Lyle High School in 1957, where she participated in band and cheerleading. She married Wayne Hanson on September 29, 1957, in the Mona Lutheran Church. Mavis was a loving mother to Gloria, Paul, Wanda and Beth.

She was a lifelong member of the Mona Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA and church activities. She was on the committee to place Mona back on the map and was an active member of Lutheran Brotherhood and Sons of Norway.

Mavis worked at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar, Iowa, holding various positions, for 33 years, after which she worked at the Mitchell County Home. She was a lifelong resident of the Carlson family farm. Mavis loved to bake, write letters, send cards, gardening and her cats. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a prankster. One of her favorite adventures was a trip to Norway and being able to stand on her grandfathers farm.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; her beloved Mittens.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne of Mona; children, Gloria (Glen) Moss of Colorado Springs, CO., Paul (Terri) Hanson of Wanamingo, MN., Wanda Hanson of Mona and Beth (Kenneth) Steinhovden of Floroe, Norway; three grandchildren, Blake (Jen) Hanson, Alex (Jen) Hanson and Alan Moss; two great grandsons, Masyn and Eli Hanson; four bonus great grandsons, Isaiah Thompson, Gage Thompson, Myles Thompson and Bennett Shelton.
