OSAGE, IOWA - Clayton Anthony Werner, age 94, of Osage, died Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Clayton was born January 2, 1923, at Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to Herbert and Florentine (Weber) Werner. He attended rural school in Mitchell County. On Sept. 28, 1948, he was united in marriage to Florence Mitchell at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. Clayton worked for C.R. Champions for over 30 years before retiring. Clayton also enjoyed fishing, bowling, jig-saw puzzles, mushroom hunting, walking, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage.

Clayton is survived by his six children, Steve (Stella) Werner of Pine City, Minnesota, Jean (Gary) Nation of Rushford, Minnesota, Sheila (Dean) Knecht of Des Moines, Vickie (Robert) Mead of Elkton, Minnesota, Brenda (Allen) Burgess of Osage, and Laurie Warren of New Hampton. He has 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Betty Williams of Wisconsin, Angie Werner and Cleo Mitchell of Osage; brothers-in-law, Lester (Oma) Mitchell of Red Oak, Texas and Art (Connie) Berge of Osage; and aunt Gladys Putnam of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Florence in 2014, daughter Connie in infancy; brother, Herbert Werner; and sister, Marion Dachel.
