Died February 20, 2017

Richard A. Lunde, age 80, of Osage, died Monday, February 20, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with Pastor Alan Schulz officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Richard was born May 26, 1936, in Osage, the son of Henry and Ora (Richardson) Lunde. He attended school in Osage graduating in 1954. Richard was a member of the Iowa National Guard receiving the rank of Buck Sergeant. He worked at Gardener Nursery, Watts Theater for 28 years as a projectionist, 20 years at Farmer’s Produce and 34 years at A to Z Drying. Richard was a lifetime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Osage Jaycee’s, where he served as a Jaycee senator, Sons of Norway member, 25-year member of Sister City Organization serving as Vice-chairman and membership chairman, the Mitchell County Historical Society and was very involved in the Democratic County Central Committee.

Richard enjoyed being Osage’s Santa Claus for 45 years and made home visits for 35 years. He loved to travel and toured Norway 16 times, Russia three times and the Czech Republic twice. He was wealthiest in what matters most, unconditional loving, caring, sharing and helping others to make the world a better place. Richard joyfully touched the lives of the children of Osage, he was the real Santa in our hearts. He loved to make people laugh and smile.

Memorial Donations may be directed to the Richard Lunde Scholarship Fund through the Osage Education Foundation.

Richard is survived by his brother; Hugh Lunde of Chicago Heights, Illinois; numerous cousins; and many close friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry Lunde.
