Died October 15, 2016

Antoinette “Toni” Johnston, age 91, of Osage, died Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday with a rosary at 5:30 p.m. at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Toni was born May 27, 1925, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Ferne (Stanton) Dybsjord. She attended Our Lady of Victory Academy in Waterloo, graduating in 1943. She took her nurse’s training at St. Joseph’s Mercy College of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, from 1943 to 1946, graduating as a Registered Nurse.

Antoinette was united in marriage to Virgil F. Johnston on October 1, 1949, at St. Joseph Catholic Church Rectory in Waterloo. They lived three years in Iowa City, Iowa, where Toni was employed by Mercy Hospital. In 1952 they moved to Osage, Iowa, where she was employed at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse for over 35 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Ladies Guild, Iowa Nurses Association, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Toni enjoyed traveling with her husband Virgil to Hawaii, Tahiti, and California. Virgil died October 28, 1999.

Toni is survived by her in-laws, Duane Sandage of West Des Moines, Iowa, James and Sylvia Kleen of Mankato, Minnesota, along with many nieces and nephews.

Toni was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ferne Dybsjord; her husband, Virgil; sister, Mary Lou (Roy) Housh; brother, Richard (Helen) Dybsjord; in-laws, Mildred Johnston, Alpha Sandage, Robert (Florence) Johnston and Maynard (Shirley) Johnston.
