ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Marion Dale Neeley, 87, of St. Ansgar, died August 13, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Osage, with the Rev. Jim Sterns officiating.

Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 19, at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar is handling arrangements.

Marion D. Neeley was born May 5, 1929, on a farm between Manly and Mason City to Royal and Elsie (Bowman) Neeley. He was the youngest of five boys. The family moved to a farm north of St. Ansgar in 1933. Marion graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1948 and then attended Hamilton Business School in Mason City.

In October of 1952, Marion went to work for what was then known as Cedar Valley Electric Cooperative, now Heartland Power Cooperative, where he worked for 39 years until he retired in August of 1991.

June 5, 1955, he married Chareen (Cockrum) at the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar. Marion loved his Lord and Savior and was active in his church his entire life. At the Osage Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, he served on the church board, was a church elder (1977-2012), taught Sunday school, was a youth group leader and an AWANA leader, and served on a variety of committees.

He was also active in his community. In St. Ansgar, he served on the city council and was mayor from 2001 to 2003 and was chairman of the North Iowa Area Council of Governments in 2003. He also was a long-time member of the St. Ansgar Lions Club, serving as treasurer and president at various times. He was a 4-H leader, a Boy Scout assistant scoutmaster, served on the Good Samaritan Advisory Board for nine years and was a member of the St. Ansgar Heritage Association board.

Marion is survived by his wife, Chareen; his children Ramona (Mona) Neeley Clifford (Robert) and Dale Neeley; his grandchildren Jade Toko, Zachary Clifford, and Joel, Roseanne, Crystal and Dustin (Neeley) Demuth; his great-grandchildren Caleb Toko and Jaylah Lehman; his brother William Neeley (Jeannette); his sister-in-law Bert Neeley; his brothers-in-law Richard (Linda), Rodger, Ralph (Kaye) and Ray (Connie) Cockrum; and much loved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert, who died at birth; his brothers, Hugh, Jean and Elwyn Neeley; and his sisters-in-law Viola and Dorothy Neeley.
