Charles A. “Charlie” Johnson was born March 15, 1930, near Carpenter, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Ruth (Parker) Johnson. He graduated from Osage Community High School in 1947. On July 6, 1952, Charlie married Betty Motland at the Osage Lutheran Church, the next to last couple to be married there before the new church was built. He was a successful farmer for 28 years, Pioneer Seed dealer for 20 years, Vigortone Feed dealer, and a purchasing agent for Cedar Valley Pork, Inc. When Charlie retired from farming in 1978, he and Betty built a home on an acreage where he enjoyed caring for his lawn and flowers. Charlie also enjoyed playing golf in his retirement years and was an avid sports fan. But Charlie’s greatest love was spending time with his family.

Charlie was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where he served as president of the church council, taught Sunday School, and spearheaded the building of the education unit. Charlie also served on the Home Trust and Savings Bank Board of Directors and the NIACC Foundation Board. He was involved with Farm Bureau, Pork and Beef Producers, Cattlemen’s Association, 4-H leadership, and in the building of the first Habitat for Humanity house of Mitchell County.

Johnson of Osage; his children, Patricia (Ken) Fox of Waverly, Deb Henderson of Charles City, David (Linda) Johnson of Woodland Park, Colorado, Brian (Nancy) Johnson of Cambridge, Linda (Brad) Toppin of Charles City, and Mark (Becky) Johnson of Osage; two special nephews, Dean (Jill) Olson of Orchard, and Bruce (Sue) Olson of Lamberton, Minnesota; grandchildren, Nicole Shearer, Matthew Fox, Dan Henderson, Joe Henderson, Angel D’Auria, Rachel Johnson, Timothy Johnson, Tony Johnson, Todd Johnson, Michael Shanahan, Jon Esparza, Amanda Kruse, Jordan Johnson, Justine Johnson, and Jacob Johnson; honorary grandchildren, Josh Olson, Jana Kelly, Luke Olson, Natalie Johnson, Lindsay Weber, and Sarah Olson; step-grandchildren, Holly Toppin, Tim Toppin, Erin Tyler, and Noelle Zobeck; several great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Eleanor Schallock, Mildred (Norman) Sponheim, Harley (Clarissa) Johnson, Ivan (Kathy) Johnson, all of Osage, and Sharon (James) Boyce of Roseville, Minnesota.
