Obituary for Mary Ellen Foster

Mary Ellen Foster, age 94, of Riceville passed away on Sunday May 15, 2016, at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center in Riceville.

Mary Ellen Foster was born on September 18, 1921, near Riceville, Iowa, to Gaylord and Inez (Sigler) Aspel. She attended local schools graduating from Riceville High School. Mary continued her education at the Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa.

On September 16, 1945, she was united in marriage to Curtis James Foster at the Congregational Church of Christ in Riceville. Mary worked as a waitress for many years for Pettitt's Café in Riceville until her retirement.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Owens and her husband Roger of Tripoli, Iowa, Lynne Derry and her husband Roger of New Hampton, Iowa; two sons, Mark of Riceville, Iowa, and Greg of Terry, Montana; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gail and her husband Bill Gibbons of Silvis, Illinois.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother Beth Aspel; husband Curtis in 1986; a son Steven in 2005; a granddaughter, Heather Derry; a great-grandson, Tyler Tank; and a brother, James Aspel.

Cemetery: Riverside Cemetery, 201 Riverside Drive, Riceville, Iowa.
