NORTHWOOD, IOWA — Howard Curtis Erdmann, 84, Northwood, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A funeral service for Howard will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 East South St., Manly, with Pastor Don Preston officiating.
Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Visitation will be from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood.
Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
The family would like to suggest that those wishing to give a memorial in his memory, may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bolan.
Howard Curtis Erdmann was born on August 1, 1931, in Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of Erwin and Irene (Steiger) Erdmann. He attended school at Rock No. 2 Township until the age of nine. His father, Erwin, died in 1940, at which time Howard, his mother Irene, and two brothers, Philip and Roger, moved to Bolan. Howard attended Barton No. 2 School through the eighth grade. Howard attended Kensett High School, graduating in May 1949. Howard also graduated from Mason City Junior College in June 1952.
He was united in marriage to Jacqueline Carlson on August 24, 1952, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Bolan, and to this marriage two children were born, Pam and Craig.
Howard taught Junior High School in Rock Falls, for one year, and Grafton Junior High School for six years.
In June 1961, Howard began the duties of being the Worth County Treasurer, a position he held until August 1969, at which time he began working for the State of Iowa as a motor vehicle investigator for Iowa Department of Public Safety. He later worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation in the same capacity.
Howard enjoyed golfing, and was an avid sports and history buff, but his great love and enjoyment was his family, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren, following their school activities.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Jacie Erdmann of Northwood; two children, Pam (Don) Anderson of Northwood, and Craig (Joanie) Erdmann of Manassas, Virginia; six grandchildren, Audra Anderson of Richmond, Virginia, Matt Anderson of Mason City, Grace Erdmann of Manassas, Virginia, Elizabeth (James) Burnett of Charlottesville, Virginia, Hope Erdmann of Denver, Colorado, and Curtis Erdmann of Manassas, Virginia; two brothers, Philip (Ruth) Erdmann of Osage, and Roger (June) Erdmann of Northwood; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Irene Erdmann.
