Benjamin Franklin Tollefson was born November 20, 1861 at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa to Knud Berg Tollefson and Tarand Knudsdatter, the youngest of their nine children.

Found in the 1870 - 1885 censuses living on a farm near St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa:

1880: K. Tollefson 62, T. Tollefson 62, Andrew K. Tollefson 25 (widowed and no child w/ him), Jeff Tollefson 22, Caroline Tollefson 27, George Tollefson 21, Benjamin Tollefson 18.

1885: Benjiman F Tollefson age 23.

Ben moved west to live with his brother Knud who was homesteading in Brown County, South Dakota.

Benjamin Tollefson died November 30, 1890 at Verdon, Brown, South Dakota and is buried at the Verdon Cemetery, Verdon, Brown, South Dakota.
