DeWayne Kruger

June 16, 1925 - January 16, 2015

DeWayne Kruger, 90, of Waterloo, died Saturday, January 16, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born June 16, 1925, in Riceville, the son of William T. and Dorothy H. Horstman Kruger. He married Elizabeth E. O’Brien on June 26, 1947, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma.

DeWayne graduated from Riceville High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed in the gage auditing department at John Deere, retiring in 1983. Following retirement he was a tour guide at John Deere for 22 years.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Waterloo; a son, Russell (Doreen) Kruger of Coeur d‘ Alene, Idaho; two daughters, Cynthia (David) Freeman of Naperville, Illinois, and De Maris (David) King of Prospect, Kentucky; six grandchildren: Jason Kruger, Sara Kruger, Angela Crow, Monica Guilfoyle, Matthew King, and Aaron King; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Kruger; a brother, Donald Kruger; and by three sisters: Doris Rehy, Doloris Tourney, and Donna Hemann.

Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 19, at St. Edward Catholic Church with burial in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Lourdes. Full military rites will be conducted at the church by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31, assisted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4-8 P.M. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 4 P.M. rosary and 7 P.M. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

DeWayne loved to play music, his Grandpa taught him at age 10 and bought him his first accordion.
