Gervis Blaser, age 88, of Osage, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2016, at the Sacred Heart Oratory in Meyer with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meyer. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Oratory in Meyer. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.

Gervis was born June 15, 1927, in Meyer, Iowa, to John and Anna (Blake) Blaser. On August 30, 1950, he married the love of his life, Lucina Freund. They made their home farming for over 50 years. Gervis was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He will be remembered for his love of the land and the joy of farming. He bought the family farm he grew up on and recently was awarded Century Farm Status. Gervis enjoyed horses, music, and loved to dance. His sense of humor and his ability to laugh never failed him.

Gervis is survived by eight children: Glenn (Carla) of Forest City, Iowa, Charlotte (Craig) Podein of Spring Valley, Minnesota, Diane (Don) Hofland and Joyce (Jack) Morrow, all of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Patricia (Matt) Flynn of Stewartville, Minnesota, Julie (Scott) Thurnau of Zumbrota, Minnesota, Mark of Forest City, Iowa, and Russell of Osage, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ardella Dahle of Placerville, California, Lucille Blaser of Osage, Iowa, Phyllis Fruend of Austin, Minnesota, John (Jean) Freund of Winona, Minnesota, Mary Orth of Backus, Minnesota, Raphael (Ruth) Freund of Austin, Minnesota, and Bertilla Noble and Angela Smith, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucina in 2010; two sons, Allan and Gary; brothers, Roger, Richard, Kenneth, and Norbert; and sisters, Armella Kramer, Irene Jax, Mildred Blaser, Kathleen Wiste, and Rita Smith.
