Pearl Duryee, 99, of Riceville, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Riceville Family Care Center in Riceville.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 407 Woodland Ave. Riceville, Iowa, with Pastor Joyce Proctor officiating. Burial will be held in Wayne Cemetery rural McIntire, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:00 until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.

Pearl Esther May Backus was born on February 26, 1915, daughter of Richard and Rose (Sternemborg) Backus in LeRoy, Minnesota. On October 5, 1935, Pearl married Gernard Duryee in Cresco, Iowa. Pearl enjoyed fishing, putting together puzzles, and cooking. She spent most of her working life raising her family.

Pearl is survived by her children, Ronald of Riceville, Iowa, Wayne of Little Cedar, Iowa, Leonard of Leland, Iowa, Diane Semerad of Riceville, Iowa, Jimmy of McIntire, Iowa, Barbara Woolworth of Cresco, Iowa, Donna Wilson of Rochester, Minnesota, and Cherie Landers of Greene, Iowa, her sister, Grace Wagner of Osage, Iowa, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Gernard, infant daughter, Katherine, and her sons, Marvin, Verne, Darrell, and Gordon.
