June 8, 1921Obituary-Mrs. Joe Edge
Alpherna Cummings, daughter of Charles F. and Asenith Cummings, was born October 30, 1865, near Stoughton, Dane County, Wisconsin. She lived there until 1887, when she came to Jones county, Iowa, with her parents, living there until 1869. The next six years of her life were spent at Red Wing, Minn., coming with her parents to Mitchell County in 1875, where she has lived ever since.
On Sept. 1, 1882, she was united in marriage with Samuel Joseph Edge, of Osage. To them were born seven children, William, who died in infancy; Mrs. Erving Lambert, of Mitchell; Mrs. Ben Flack and Mrs. E. W. Parsons, Samuel Joseph,Jr., of Osage and Gail and Ray, at home.
Besides her husband and children she leaves five brothers; Charles, of Stewartville, Minn., Myron, William, Henry and Harry, of Osage; three sisters; Mrs. Laura Page, of Edgerton, Wis., Mrs. Lucy Seeley, of Little Cedar and Mrs. John Edge, of Osage; also four grandchildren of whom she was very fond, Burnell and Junior Flack, of Osage, and Kenneth and Edna Lambert of Mitchell. Beside these, other relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn her loss. Two sisters, Mrs. Edward Bird and Mrs. Rose Crangle have preceded her in death.
Gone but not forgotten is a most lovable wife, mother, sister and grandmother. All of whom knew the character of this dear woman know that her one aim in life was to do good to everyone. Her whole heart and life were wrapped up in her family, always doing for them and never thinking of herself. She was a Christian woman in her home, and although she never united with any church, was reared in the Baptist faith, both her parents being Baptist.
For nearly a year she has been suffering, but so patiently that few knew she was ill. Quietly she lived, and quietly, but bravely, joined the "innumerable caravan which has crossed the invisible frontier and entered the undiscovered country".
Funeral services were conducted at the home last Thursday by Rev. Cross ad burial was in Osage cemetery.
