JUDGE H. BABCOCK

Old friends in Osage and former students of the Cedar Valley Seminary will regret to learn of the passing of Judge Howard Babcock. He died at a Webster, South Dakota hospital, where he had been taken for an operation, from his home in Sisseton, South Dakota.

The end was unexpected as Judge babcock had been in good health and had up to that time been fulfilling his duties as a judge, and used his leisure time to manage his farms in Roberts County, South Dakota.

Judge Babcock was attracted to south dakota when the Indian reservation was opened to settlement in 1892. He was born in Waterloo, Wisconsin, December 22, about 1890 [SIC], and studied law with W. W. Wilson at Rochester, Minnesota. Later he went to Wilmot, South Dakota, where he was admitted to the South Dakota bar in 1892.

He was appointed judge of the fifth circuit court on September 1, 1929, and served continuously, winning re-election each time his term expired.
