Leona E. Rogers, age 96, of Osage, died Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 4:30 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Shriners Children’s Hospital or the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

Leona was born December 29, 1918, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Christina (Braun) Mandler. She attended and graduated from Osage High School. Leona was a secretary at the Gardner Nursery where she met Andrew J. Schwab, who she married June 29, 1938, at Sacred Heart Church in Osage, becoming a homemaker. To this union four children were born, Andrew A., Shirley, Chuck, and Tom. Following Andy’s death in an accident in 1958, Leona went to work in the office at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, until her marriage to Oswald Rogers on March 6, 1962, at Sacred Heart Church. Leona loved to cook huge meals and to bake cookies and pies for family and friends. She was an avid card player, especially “500”. Leona maintained her sense of humor to the end. She was a lifelong, very devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Guild and the Covenant Singers.

Leona is survived by her son, Tom (Marcia) Schwab of Nora Springs; eleven grandchildren: Andy’s kids, Susan Schwab, Steven Schwab, Michael Schwab, and Melissa Rwambuya; Shirley’s son, Daniel DeVore; Chuck’s kids, Kim Schwab, Kelly McPhail, and Angie Schwab Atwell; and Tom’s kids, Jeff Hanak, Chris Schwab, and Andi Roe; several great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Hultman of Osage; son-in-law, Larry DeVore of Dothan, Alabama; and several kind and caring nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew J. Schwab in 1958; husband, Oswald Rogers in 1982; children, Andrew A. Schwab, Shirley DeVore, and Chuck Schwab; brother, Frank Mandler; and sisters, Rose Spurgeon, Estella Neuerburg, and Marie Kobernusz.
