Raymond John Waters, 84, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

Ray was born January 2, 1931, in Osage, Iowa, to Burall D. and Katherine M. (Haehn) Waters, and was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family moved to Mitchell, South Dakota, in 1931. Ray attended Holy Family Catholic Church and Notre Dame Academy. The family then moved to Austin in 1940 where they were members of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Ray graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1950. He was employed by the Hormel Foods Corporation for 35 years. Ray served his country in the Minnesota National Guard from 1948-1952, being on active duty from January 16, 1951, to May 1952.

Ray was united in marriage to Inez Mary Walsh on November 30, 1957, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. She preceded him in death on February 17, 2015.

Ray served on the Parish Council at St. Augustine Catholic Church, also as a Eucharistic minister and a lector. He was past Commander of Austin Post No. 91 American Legion, past District Commander of the First District American Legion, past Department (State) Chaplain, past Department (State Vice Commander), past Grand Knight of Austin Council 1201 Knights of Columbus, and past Faithful Navigator fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

Ray is survived by his brother-in-law, Gene (Veronica) Plantz, Byron, Minnesota; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

In addition to his wife; he is preceded in death by his parents, Burall and Katherine Waters; and his sister, Florence M. Plantz.

A memorial mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. There will be a 5:30 p.m. rosary on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment for Ray and Inez will be in Calvary Cemetery. American Legion Post No. 91 will provide military honors and the fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will also be in attendance.
