Alma Gertina Paulson was born April 18, 1897 at Nora Springs, Floyd, Iowa to Gjert Knutsen Paulson and Anna Tormodsdatter Dordahl, the fourth of their five children. Alma was baptized on June 3, 1897 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

Besides her four siblings, she had three half-siblings, as her father was married twice.

Alma married Clifford Lewis Gast on April 18, 1918 at the Lutheran parsonage at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.

The couple had five children who were all born at Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa:
Clyndon Clifford (b April 9, 1919, d June 4, 2000 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);

George J. (b October 20, 1922, d May 11, 2002 Osage, Iowa);

Richard LaVerne (b January 20, 1924, d November 7, 2008 Osage, Iowa);

William B. (b August 10, 1927, d July 11, 2013 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa) and

Marlys Jean (b October 7, 1934).

After retirement, Alma moved into a house in Osage, Iowa.

Alma Gast died September 8, 1975 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
