Mrs. William Starr Dies at Onawa; Old Resident Here

Mrs. William Starr, about 85 years of age, died Monday, July 16, at the home of her son, Dr. Hugh Starr, at Onawa, where she had been visiting for several weeks. Before going there Mrs. Starr had been at the home of another son, Dr. Earl Starr, of Jamestown, N. D.

Mrs. Starr and her late husband were among the older residents of Osage. Mr. Starr and his brothers established the Starr Ice Cream and Candy Company here about 1904 and it remained in the family until 16 years ago when it was sold to the present owner, W. E. McCoy.

As Edna Whelen she was married to William Starr 55 years ago. They lived in the northwest part of town for many years; then built the residence on east Main Street, which is now owned by William Schiller.

After disposing of their business here, Mr. and Mrs. Starr moved to Santa Monica, Cal., where Mr. Starr died a few years later. In spite of her age Mrs. Starr made several trips back to her old home. Recently she had lived with her daughter, Dr. Ella Starr at El Segundo, Cal. The latter was called to Onawa when her mother became ill. She and the youngest daughter of the family, Mrs. Josephine Werts of Chicago; also Dr. Hugh Starr, accompanied the body to Santa Monica, Cal., for funeral service and burial.

Surviving are the four children named above. Another daughter, Emma Starr, passed away about five years ago.
