ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Eugenia (Penny) Allen, 94, of St. Ansgar, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at Sacred Heart Care Facility, Austin, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with the Rev. Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Visitation with be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, IA; 641-713-4920, www.schroederandsites.com

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Eugenia (Penny) Allen, 94, of St. Ansgar, died November 18, 2014, in Austin, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with the Rev. Raymond Burkle officiating.

Burial will take place in the St. Ansgar Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be on Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Penny was born on September 7, 1920, in Louisville, Kentucky. She received he teaching degree from Western Kentucky College, Louisville, and taught school there until joining the WACS during World War II. While stationed in San Francisco she met her future husband, John Allen, who was there recouperating from being held as a Japanese prisoner of war.

John and Penny were married in Brainard, Minnesota. They settled in St. Ansgar in 1955 where they raised five children. Penny was a special education teacher for the Osage Public School system for many years. She was an active member of St. Ansgar Catholic Church and was a member of the I.C. Club. Penny enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Jay Allen, Sr. and one granddaughter, Jessica Janice Allen.

Penny is survived by her children; John Allen, Jr. (Jane) of California City, Tom Allen of St. Ansgar, Robb Allen (Sue) of Apple Valley, Minn., Linda Israel (Bob) of Rose Hill, Kansas, and Jean Moore (Jim) of Rochester, Minn.
