Candace (Gisleson) Purvis – April 6, 1925 – May 16, 2005

Services for Candace Purvis, 80, of 1610 South First Street, Marshalltown, Iowa, will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2005 at the Elim Lutheran Church with Pastor Karen Cluts officiating. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Candace died on Monday, May 16, 2005 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

She was born to George and Ellen Gisleson on their family farm south of Osage, Iowa, on April 6, 1925. She was baptized on July 12, 1925 and confirmed on May 26, 1941 at the Osage Evangelical Norwegian Lutheran Church.

Candace was reared and educated in Orchard, Iowa and graduated from high school in 1942. She continued her education by taking a business course in Omaha, Nebraska. She did secretarial work in Mason City, Charles City and Waverly.

Following her marriage to Wilbur Purvis in 1950, they lived in Grundy Center, Iowa, and Oskaloosa, Iowa. In 1952, they moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, where they have made their home since then. Candace worked with medical records at the St. Thomas Mercy Hospital from 1952-1958.

She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church for over 50 years, a choir member for many years, and also taught Sunday school.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

She is survived by her husband Wilbur of 54 years; two children, Sonia (Douglas) Freeman of Holiday Lake-Brooklyn, Iowa and Eric (Kim) Purvis of Marshalltown; three grandchildren, Joshua (Angie) Freeman of Ankeny, Elissa (Cody) Hotchkin of Cedar Rapids and Emily Freeman of Brooklyn; two great- grandchildren, Sydney and Logan Astelle; a brother, Everett (Jaceil) Gisleson of Osage and three nephews, Mark Gisleson of St. Paul, Minnesota, Bill (Laurie) Gisleson of Osage, and Jon (Ardi) Gisleson of Floyd, Iowa.

The Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home (641) 753-3344 has been entrusted by the Purvis family with her final arrangements.
