Emma Gertrude Mason was born October 1866 (or October 7, 1857?) in Canada to Margaret Caby of Massachusetts and James Mason of England.

Emma married William Edward Torney on June 25, 1895 at Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The couple came to Iowa and Emma was naturalized.

They had 1 adopted daughter, Nellie Marie (b October 8, 1907 McGregor, Clayton, Iowa, d October 18, 1930 Springfield, Greene, Missouri).

1900: William E Torney 44, Emma G Torney 33.

1910: William E Torney 54, Emma G Torney 41, James Mecheck 31, Myra Zelia Auringer 20.

1915: Emma Torney age 48.

1920: Wm E Torney 64, Emma G Torney 52, Nellie Torney 13.

Found in the 1925 - 1940 censuses at Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa:
1925: widowed. Emma Torney 58, Nellie Tomey 17.

1940: Emma Torney age 70, renting a room and working as a nurse.

Emma Torney died December 24, 1943 at Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa.
