Sister Julia (Evarista) Bissen, FSPA – September 15, 1913 – July 14, 2004

Sister Julia Bissen, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 90, died July 14, 2004, at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse.

Sister Julia was born to Matthias and Margaret (Smith) Bissen, on Sept. 15, 1913, in Adams, Minn.

She entered St. Rose Convent on Aug. 11, 1931, and professed vows on Aug. 6, 1934. Ministering in the healthcare profession, she served as a registered nurse for 36 years in hospitals in Iowa, Idaho and Wisconsin.

Sister Julia also served as an RN at St. Michael's Home, St. Joseph Nursing Home and Villa
St. Joseph, La Crosse. Her last 10 years of active ministry were at St. Rose Convent Infirmary. Sister Julia retired at St. Rose Convent in 1990 and to the Villa in 1999.

Sister Julia is survived by her Franciscan Community including a sister, Sister Marydel Bissen, FSPA, La Crosse; three sisters, Rosina Koenigs and Margaret (Alex) Blake, both of Stacyville, Iowa, and Martha (Bob) Heinrichs of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; a brother, Fred (Myrna) Bissen of Stacyville; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond; a sister, Agnes; and an unnamed baby sister.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday, July 18, when the body will be met at St. Rose Convent. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 18, in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Rev. Tom O'Neill, chaplain at Viterbo University, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial in Mary of the Angels Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 19. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse.
Blaschke Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
