ST. ANSGAR, IOWA -- Gerd Marthe Haugen, 93, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society, St. Ansgar.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Mona Lutheran Church, Mona, with the Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar; 641-713-4920, www.schroederandsites.com

Obituary--

Gerd Marthe (Westend) Haugen was born January 5, 1921 in Jevnaker, Norway. She was born to Ivar Westend Hognes and Karen Olimb Westend Hognes.

Gerd came to St. Ansgar, Iowa on August 2, 1948 and became a US citizen on November 18, 1952. Gerd was married to Odell K. Haugen on December 11, 1949. They had two children, Linda Lagoni of Canby, Oregon, and Terry Haugen of St. Ansgar.

She died at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar on Monday May 26, 2014, where she had resided for the last 12 years.

She took great pride in her flower and rose gardens and enjoyed baking, knitting and quilting.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Odell, brothers Hans Hognes and Brand Hognes of Norway, sister Reidun Hegelund of Alingsas, Sweden, her parents and brother–in-law Leland Haugen and sister-in-law Hattie Haugen of Mona, Iowa.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Lagoni and her husband, Bill and their children; a son Terry Haugen and his wife, Faye and their children, Karen (Todd) Blood, SSG Erik (Brooke) Haugen and Matthew (Candice) Haugen and six great-grandchildren.
