MELLEM RITES WILL BE HELD
SON OF FIRST SETTLER IS BURIED AFTER RITESNorthwood – Funeral services for Charles G. Mellem 67, were held at the home one mile west of Northwood and at the Synod Lutheran Church in Northwood with the pastor, the Rev. A. J. Torgerson, in charge. Burial was made in the Lutheran section of Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. He died Sunday of heart weakness and complications.
Mr. Mellem had lived his entire life on the farm where he died. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Gulbrand O. Mellem, the first settlers of Worth County, who in 1853 built their pioneer log cabin, the first home built in this county on the banks of the Shell Rock River where the town of Northwood is now situated. Later they settled on a homestead one mile west of Northwood where Charles G. Mellem was born, lived, and died.
He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Randina Myli, four sons, Hartwick, Carlin, Harold and Clarence, all of Northwood and vicinity; one sister, Mrs. T. C. Rone, Northwood, and one brother, Gustav G Mellem, Wyndmere, North Dakota.
One of his deceased brothers, the late Ole G. Mellem, was the first white child born in Worth County.Mason City Globe Gazette November 28, 1936
