Donald H. Lesch

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Donald H. Lesch, age 91, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls.

He was born May 15, 1922, in Rockford, Iowa, the son of Herman and Julia (Popham) Lesch. Donald graduated from Osage (Iowa) High School. He was united in marriage with Evelyn E. Tabbert on June 3, 1951, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Township, near Osage. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2004.

Don was employed by John Deere & Co. for 43 years, retiring in 1986. Most of his career was spent at the Product Engineering Center (PEC) as an engine technician. Don volunteered at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels after his retirement. He was actively involved with his church and the Boy Scouts.

Survivors include five sons, twin sons Conrad (Tina) Lesch of Joliet, Illinois, and Edward (Carlyn) Lesch of Davenport, David (Jane) Lesch of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Robert (Kim) Lesch of Concord, California, and Charles (Jean) Lesch of Ann Arbor, Michigan; a daughter, Ruth (Dan) Harken of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and three brothers, Leroy, Roger and Byron and their wives.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 229 Chestnut St., Janesville, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls.

Public visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, 3146 Kimball Ave. in Waterloo and an hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the Church.

Donald sang in the barbershop quartet “The Rusty Hinges,” he enjoyed music, reading and playing Scrabble. Don could fix or build just about anything. His patience and kindness will be remembered by many.
