OSAGE MAN TAKES OWN LIFE BY HANGING
Osage, Iowa – Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Champion Funeral Home for Marchie Bentley, 60. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Bentley was found Sunday morning hanging in the bedroom of his home here. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Joyal found the door locked and notified authorities. Dr. Ralph Whitley, Mitchell County medical examiner, said Bentley apparently had committed suicide early Saturday evening.
Dr. Whitley said Bentley had been despondent over ill health. He had been in a tree accident in January 1960 and had suffered a broken back and internal injuries. Last Christmas Day he was involved in a gunshot accident. Dr. Whitley said it had not been determined whether or not that was intentional.
Born in Osage, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bentley. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister May Bentley, and a brother, Charles.
His only survivor is a niece who is hospitalized in St. Paul.
