RICEVILLE, IOWA - Kathleen “Kate” D. Goodbrand, 92, of Riceville, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Riceville Family Care Center in Riceville.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home with Pastor Byron Northwick officiating.

Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery Riceville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 407 Woodland Ave., Riceville.

Kathleen Murphy was born on December 14, 1921, daughter of Leo and Mabel (Phippen) Murphy on the home farm south of Riceville in Howard County. She was baptized and attended school in Riceville.

One September 7, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold E. Bohneman. They farmed near Riceville and had three children. Harold joined the Army and died in 1945, leaving Kathleen a young widow. She met and married Stanley L. Goodbrand on November 26, 1947, and together they had seven children. Kathleen and Stanley were married until his death in 1989. He retired from the railroad.

Kathleen was a good cook and baker. She enjoyed her family, family reunions, and casual get togethers. In her later years she enjoyed trips to Utah to visit her daughter Janice and husband John Floyd. She traveled with her sons and daughters-in-law, daughter Connie and grandson Nick. She even went to casinos in Las Vegas for fun while there.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Harold and Stanley, her siblings, Joseph (Evelyn and Josephine) Murphy, Lawrence (Louisa) Murphy, Beatrice (Dan Worple and Joe) McGovern, Vivian (Ed) Purtell, daughters Nancy Rassman, Beverly Jean Bohneman, sons, Stanley L. Goodbrand, Jr., Gary Allen Goodbrand, and great-granddaughter Brandi Hockenson.

She is survived by her children, Janice (John) Floyd, James (Dorothy) Bohneman, Mary Kay (Jack Greenlun) Clausen, Connie Goodbrand, Larry (Vivian) Goodbrand, Linda Goodbrand, sons-in-law, Denny Rassman, and Frank Haugland. She also had 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren as well as many other relatives.
