STACYVILLE, IOWA - Arthur A. Thome, 87, of Stacyville, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Center in Osage.

STACYVILLE, IOWA - Arthur A. Thome, 86, of Stacyville, died Tuesday (April 1, 2014) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Center in Osage.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday (April 5, 2014) at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Fr. Raymond Burkle as Celebrant.

Committal services will follow in Visitation Catholic Cemetery, Stacyville, where full military honors will be provided.

Visitation will be held Friday evening (April 4, 2014) at Visitation Catholic Church from 5 to 7 p.m. where the Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake service will take place at 7 p.m.

Arthur Albert Thome was born on March 24, 1928, in McIntire, the eldest child of Albert and Rose (Hoerter) Thome. He attended school at Visitation Catholic School.

After school Art worked as a farm hand until enlisting in the United States Army on March 22, 1951. While serving his country in Korea, Art was wounded on September 9, 1951, and received a Purple Heart for his injuries. During his time overseas Art's younger brother, Gene, was declared missing in action on March 2, 1952; he would never return home. Art received his honorable discharge on March 4, 1953.

Upon returning to Iowa, Art was employed for various farmers throughout the years before accepting a position with the Mitchell County Highway Department. He worked as a mechanic and a snowplow driver from 1958 until his retirement in 1998.

In his free time Art loved collecting antiques and was known for his antique toy, butter churn, and pocket watch collections. He loved Model A Fords and was incredibly proud of his fully restored Model A.

Those grateful in sharing in Art's life are his siblings, Dale Thome, Waterloo, Mary Jane Foxen, New Haven, and Dan (Bev) Thome, Stacyville; his sister in law, Joan Thome Snow; and many nieces and nephews.

Art is preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Gene Thome, Leon Thome, and Arlene "Tootsie" Grell; brothers in law, Jerry Grell and Leo Foxen; and sisters in law, Kathy Thome and Connie Thome Duren.
