OBITUARY:
Floyd L. Ellson, age 104 of Orlando passed away March 1, 2012. He was born February 17, 1908 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, to Martin and Elfreda Ellson, the third of seven siblings. He spent his childhood on the family farm near Gary, Minnesota, where he lived until he moved to Iowa in 1937. He earned a Bachelors Degree from Moorhead State, a Masters Degree from Drake University and a Specialist Degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
He began his career teaching in a Minnesota country school and then served 30 years as an Iowa Superintendent of Schools. During World War II he served as a Senior Lieutenant in the Navy. Floyd was a lifelong Christian and member of St. Luke's Methodist Church in Orlando, Florida. Floyd participated in politics, and held leadership positions in community organizations including The Masons, The Lions, The Boy Scouts and a work-study program for handicapped individuals.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Lucille, their four children and spouses and a loving extended family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 10th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Methodist Church, 4851 S. Apopka Vineland Road #C, Orlando FL 32819. Arrangements are under the direction of Family Funeral Care, Orlando, Florida.

News article:Jane, Jean and Jimmy Ellson returned home last Wednesday after spending a week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Beneke. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ellson, were moving from Webb to Hubbard. Mr. Ellson was superintendent of the Webb school for nine years.

MARRIAGE--The marriage of Sybil Lucille Beneke, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Beneke of Laurens, and Floyd Lester Ellson of Chicago, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ellson of Portland, Oregon, was solemnized at a candlelight service at, the Methodist church in Laurens on Sunday, January 3, at 3 o'clock. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. O. Ward in the presence of 80 relatives and friends.
Mrs. Arthur Andersen of Ulen, Minn., a sister of the bridegroom, wore a bride's maid dress of peach taffeta. Leland Beneke of Washington, brother of the bride, served as best man. Ushers were Attorney Don G. Beneke of Belmond and Dr. H. P. Jensen of Blairsburg. Iowa
Mrs. Ellson is a graduate of State Teachers' College at Cedar Falls. She taught two years in Otranto and for the past 3½ years has been the fourth grade teacher in the West Bend Consolidated School.
Mr. Ellson, a graduate of Minnesota State Teachers College at Moorhead, received his master's degree from Drake University. He was coach and superintendent at Otranto and Mitchell until his entrance into the armed service. He is now Chief Petty Officer In the Naval Lakes Naval Training Station near Chicago.
The happy couple left on a wedding trip and will be at home after January 11 at 3110 Sabriel, Zion, Illinois.
